Hi, Christopher. We have received a lot of user requests for comment functionality on Tumblr. We are working on how to best allow interactivity while staying true to the spirit of a streamlined tumblelog environment.

In the meantime, if you are comfortable editing the Custom HTML of tumblelog or Public Group, you can manually add the comment system provided by Disqus. Editing Custom HTML is a somewhat advanced activity, so we wouldn't recommend doing it unless you've worked with HTML in the past.

You can visit http://disqus.com/create to sign up for Disqus. Then, add the code they give you in your Custom HTML as directed.

To modify your Custom HTML, go into the Dashboard for your tumblelog or Public Group and click on the Customize button in the upper right corner. The Customize button looks like a gear. On the Theme tab, you can edit your Custom HTML.

If you would like to learn more about HTML on your own, visit http://www.w3schools.com/html.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. Thanks for using Tumblr!

Marc :-)

There are alternatives. Check out http://cmmnt.info/ - it doesn't require a signup either.
